In patients with pulseless electrical activity, which of the following is true?
a The electrical conduction system is not functional, but the heart muscle is contracting
b The electrical conduction system is functional, and the heart muscle is contracting
c The electrical conduction system is not functional, and the heart muscle is not contracting
d The electrical conduction system is functional, but the heart muscle is not contracting

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Answer Option D The electrical conduction system is functional, but the heart muscle is not contracting

Pulseless electrical activity (PEA) is seen as a form of cardiac arrest wherein the electrical activity of the heart appear normal in the electrocardiogram but clinically no pulse is felt. This is due to the non responsiveness of the cardiac muscle to the electrical conduction system

The major causes are remembered by the 6 H's

  • Hypovolemia
  • Hypoxia
  • Hydrogen ions (Acidosis)
  • Hyperkalemia or Hypokalemia
  • Hypoglycemia
  • Hypothermia

Other causes are also present

Which of the following statements is TRUE ? Answers: a. An activity-based costing system costs about the same amount as a traditional job-order costing system. b. None of the other statements is true. c. Activity-based costing systems allocate overhead costs directly from cost sources (e.g. factory lease cost, supervisor salary cost, etc.) to product units based on activity rates. d. All else being equal, activity-based costing is more likely to be profitable when the firm has fewer SG&A costs.
