Briefly outline the layers of immune defence and illustrate how they may interact
Immune system destroys the foreign organisms and maintain normal health status of a human body.
There are three lines of immunse defense system-
Physical and chemical barriers
Nonspecific defence system
Specific defence system
Physical and chemical barriers constitute the first line of defence and include- skin, mucous membrane, saliva, gastric acid, hairs, sebum etc.
Nonspecific defence system constitute second line of defence and involves phagocytic cells and inflammatory mediators.
Physical barriers, chemical barriers and nonspecific defense system comes under innate immunity.
Specific defense system comes under acquired immunity and constitute third line of defence. it consists of antigen antibody reactions, T cell mediated pathway, which acts against specific foreign substances found in the body.
