what tissue (including sub-type) are tendons and ligaments made of and why do they take longer to heal than muscles?

Answer #1

Dear Student,

*A tendon is a structure which connects muscle to bone and it is composed of fibrous connective tissue. And proteoglycans holds together the collagen .

*Ligaments join one bone to other bone and both of these are composed of collagen in tendons

* The healing process of these tendons and ligaments are long and time taking with severe pain because unlike muscles the fibrous connective tissue here has less blood supply resulting in bringing less fluid and nutrients to the injured site which delays the healing process.

Hope you are clear...
