When performing a shoulder hand spacing push up versus a closer hand spacing with hands positioned closer to the mid torso, how does this effect activation within the; Pectoralis Major and Minor differ . Also, if using the shoulder hand spacing push up what happens to muscle activation within The Pectoralis Major and Minor when you; elevate your feet, elevate your hands?

  • Push up is a very good excerice, which activate more number of muscle.
  • An experiment was conducted in push up on 20 healthy adult males in different hand width spacing .
  • The main aim of this  experiment was to check effect of push up on different muscles.
  • push up excercise were performed on narrow width, neutral width( shoulder hand spacing) and wider width.
  • The result was, on narrow width push up there were more effect on pectoralis minor , triceps and infraspinatus
  • And pectoralis major muscles activation was more on shoulder width push up.
  • At wider width push up activity of serratus anterior is more.
  • A push up which elevated feet is decline push, in which activity on pectoralis major muscle is more
  • A push up with elevated hand is incline push up, here both pectoralis major and pectoralis minor also effected.There is also effect on triceps.
