General sales tax is applied to goods and services in a particular jurisdiction with a particular rate decided by the government.sales tax are governed at state level and no national sales tax exists. There are states which do not levy sales tax ( Alaska, Delaware, Montana ,p new hampshire and oregon). Americans pay between 2.5% to 7.9% sales tax on the majority of the goods they buy or on the services rendered. On an average sales tax accounts as a larger revenue compared to property tax or income tax.
