The article explains the importance of maintaining academic integrity and ethics by submitting the original ideas or views in the research papers or articles submitted to the universities. If someone else’s ideas are misrepresented as one’s own and without giving the credits to the original writer either through way of in-citations or giving the references, such an event is regarded as cheating and is the breach of both Civil and Criminal Law. It is the breach of copyrights law and would be termed as fraud under the law and is chargeable. The guilty offender is liable to imprisonment for five years under the law. Universities have the responsibility to guide and educate the students regarding the same and should abide to the laws applicable by reporting such fraud.
