Question

What is the predetermined overhead rate (round if necessary)?

What is the predetermined overhead rate (round if necessary)?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Predetermined overhead rate is the formula used to calculate manufacturing or production overhead at the beginning of the period. They are calculated on the basis of rational forecasts and estimates. Formula for the same can be derived by dividing overheads (manufacturing) by activity driver or base.

Formula for predetermined overhead rate is as followed :

Predetermined overhead rate = Estimated overhead cost / Estimated total units or Estimated total labour hours (or any other relevant base).

Predetermined Overhead Rate, Overhead Variances, Journal Entries Craig Company uses a predetermined overhead rate to assign overhead to jobs. Because Craig's production is machine intensive, overhead is applied on the basis of machine hours. The expected overhead for the year was $5.7 million, and the practical level of activity is 375,000 machine hours.    During the year, Craig used 382,500 machine hours and incurred actual overhead costs of $5.73 million. Craig also had the following balances of applied overhead in its...

Exercise 2-1 Compute a Predetermined Overhead Rate [LO2-1] Harris Fabrics computes its plantwide predetermined overhead rate annually on the basis of direct labor-hours. At the beginning of the year, it estimated that 35,000 direct labor-hours would be required for the period’s estimated level of production. The company also estimated $555,000 of fixed manufacturing overhead cost for the coming period and variable manufacturing overhead of $2.00 per direct labor-hour. Harris’s actual manufacturing overhead cost for the year was $692,504 and its...

The predetermined overhead rate for Jordan Company is $5, comprised of a variable overhead rate of $3 and a fixed rate of $2. The amount of budgeted overhead costs at normal capacity of $150,000 was divided by normal capacity of 30,000 direct labor hours, to arrive at the predetermined overhead rate of $5. Actual overhead for June was $9,500 variable and $6,050 fixed, and standard hours allowed for the product produced in June was 3,000 hours. The total overhead variance...
