Following is the process of becoming and maintaining registration of a tax agent;

1. First of all you should obtain Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN) because PTIN is basic requirement. Hence first of all obtain PTIN.

2. Register on ‘Special Enrollment Examination (SEE) web page’ to take test.

3. Take relevant information after reviewing the SEE Candidate Information Bulletin.

4. Review SEE sample test questions and answers

5. You have to achieve passing scores on all 3 parts of the ‘Special Enrollment Examination (SEE).

6. After passing the SEE, you need to apply for enrollment and pay enrollment fee to the IRS.

7. After registering with IRS and paying required fees you will get status of tax agent.

8. After passing every three years, you need to renew your status.

9. You have to renew your PTIN annually.
