Discuss (with examples) the difference between the mean and median, with emphasis on the appropriate use of each measure?

Mean	Median
It is highly affected by the presence of a few extreme values.	It is not affected by the presence of a few extreme values
It can be used for further mathematical analysis.	The mathematical analysis regarding median is more restricted than mean.

Example:- Consider the dataset

40,45,47,56,42,54,62,65,67

Here mean = 53.111, median = 54

Now if we replace the 1st value by 10 the the mean changes to = 49.777 but the median remains unchanged.

Now, if the dataset corresponds to some samples values of a population corresponding to some character under study, we can have the sampling distribution of its mean and hence further analysis of the mean. But we cannot find such a thing for the median.
