The sum of positive and negative can be positive ,zero or negative . It depends on the absolute value of positive and negative number. Absolute value is the value of number without sign of plus or minus.
If the absolute value of positive number is greater than the absolute value of negative number then the sum is positive. If the absolute value of negative number is greater than the positive number then the sum is negative. If both numbers are same then the sum is zero.
Counterexample of the above question is
(-7) + (+10) = +3
Here sum of negative number and positive number is positive which is the counterexample of the above statement.
