Question

What is the range of values for the correlation coefficient?

What is the range of values for the correlation coefficient?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Answer:- The correlation coefficient is a statistical measure of the strength of the relationship between relative movements of two variables. The range of correlation coefficient lies between -1 to 1. A calculated number greater 1.0 or less than -1.0 means that there was an error in the correlation measurement. A correlation of -1.0 shows a perfect negative correlation, while a correlation of 1.0 shows a perfect positive correlation. A correlation of 0.0 shows no linear relationship between the movement of two variables.

If we denote correlation coefficient by 'r' then -1< r <1.

Suppose the Pearson’s product-moment correlation coefficient between shoulder range of motion and shoulder pain is .4. Also suppose the Pearson’s product moment correlation coefficient between the time since shoulder injury and shoulder pain is .2. Directly compare the proportion of variance in shoulder pain explained by each of these variables.
