The difference between hierarchical and stepwise multiple regression is that

Answer #1

Main difference between the hierarchical and stepwise multiple regression is the difference in ways in which the terms or data values are entered into the regression equation

In hierarchical multiple regression, data values or independent variables are entered in a hierarchical way, i.e. either we can enter according to our decision choice or by some predefined steps

In stepwise multiple regression , data values or independent variables are entered in a way such that the independent variables are aligned from highest to lowest contribution to coefficient of determination or R squared value.

So, we can say that the difference between hierarchical and stepwise multiple regression is that the order of variable entry is different in both regressions.

Two researchers analyse the exact same data set, using multiple regression analyses to predict depression from secure attachment, neuroticism, and anxiety.  Catherine finds that anxiety is a significant predictor of depression in her analysis, while Sam finds that anxiety is not a significant predictor in her analysis.  Assuming neither made a mistake, which of the following is true about how the researchers conducted their analyses? (a) Sam must have conducted a standard multiple regression (SMR); while Catherine must have conducted a hierarchical...
