Cognitive appraisal is assessing
various aspects of an emotional event and arrives at a response
based on the interpretation and evaluation of that situation. This
cognitive appraisal occurs in a two step procedure, the primary
appraisal appraisal and the secondary appraisal. In the college
level speaking assignment appraisal would be as:
- Primary appraisal: The students
would assess all the matters and different aspects of the topic
that is to spoken. They will prepare the speech well according to
their interpretation of the situation.
- Secondary appraisal: If the
students successfully carry out their speaking assignment they
would feel relieved and a sense of accomplishment. Whereas, if
something goes wrong, they would panic, feel nervous, ashamed and
would be hesitant in future speaking assignments. Or they would
prepare in a better manner and would deliver their speaking
assignment with more confidence, that is they would strive for
success next time.
