Imagine that you are interested in the effects of background music on people’s performance at work. Design an experiment in which you test the effects of classical music (played at various decibels) on employees’ job performance. In designing the study, you will need to decide how many levels of loudness to use, whether to use a control group, how to assign participants to conditions, how to eliminate confound variance and minimize error variance, and how to measure job performance.
There could be three controls groups for this experiments where each group would be expose to a certain decibel of the music.
The first group to low, ambient music
The second group to medium, a higher decibel music
And the third, the one with the highest point, within thenhuman range of course.
The Confounding varibale would be to give each group a different task, which can be controlled by giving the same plane task to all the groups so that the performance is not task dependent.
The workers could be segragted from the same department in order to measure job performance accurately and reduce error variance.
The job performance could be measured by the quality of performance in each segment of control group.
