A consumer behavior researcher is curious as to whether, in terms of monetary value of Christmas presents received, it makes a difference if a child is naughty or nice. She has parents classify their children as naughty or nice, then calculates how much the parents spent on Christmas presents for the two different groups of children. What is the independent variable and dependent variable in the study.
The dependent variable is what is measured in an experiment and what is fcted during a experiment. DV in a experiment or reasearch can not be changed. Here the naughtiness or nice is dependent upon the christmas presents. Hence the naughtiness and nice traits are the dependent varaible.
Whereas the independent varaible is varaible that can be manipulated and is avaialble in different types or amounts etc. Indenpedent varaible is used to measure DV. The calculation is the later part and hence is not any varaible but it is making the hyposthesis more sound.
