Should cyber-activism, i.e. hacktivism (such as WikiLeaks) be equally recognized as an exercise of a morally legitimate act of free expression, protest and civil disobedience?
Yes, cyber-activism such as Wikileaks should be equally recognized as an exercise of morally legitimate act of free expression. This is considering the fact that the science and technology has developed so much. The world has shrunk with the use of internet. It has become a main way of interacting with people. So, denying such a means and considering it as illegal would be foolish. Just like people have freedom of speech in the democratic country, freedom of expression over the internet should also be legitimate. Arresting people for saying something over the internet against some politician or a Government official should not happen and people should be freely allowed to communicate their views, opinions without being treated as a crime.
With the advancement, considering these cyber-activism and preventing people from doing so, is nearly impossible.
