Whether people’s perspective on development leans toward nature or nurture it will affect their child rearing. For example, if a parent feels intelligence is inherited they will handle their child’s education differently than someone who feels it is based upon environmental factors. Think about your own development, were there any areas that were influenced by your guardian’s belief in nature or nurture? Think about the realms of academics, sports, non-academic subjects, music, art, etc. that may have been impacted.

Nature vs nurture debate has been there in psychology for long . Only a person endowed with adequate intelligence will be able to adapt to the environment and act effectively. But nurture has its own significance . Only a person introduced to the different aspects of endevours may become adept at the skills necessary for it. This becomes more evident in the development of the skills related to music , art etc. Even if the person has innate musical talent, the person will only be able to use a particular musical instrument when trained in it. And a person who has been trained well tend to outperform another in sports or athletics who has had no professional training. Also it is equally important what belief system a person has towards nature vs nurture idea. A person who believes in the nurture ideaology tend to reach for opportunities to get skilled in different areas of interests. This has a profound impact on parenting. A child genetically endowed with good neuronal substrate and adequate intelligence may adapt itself to the available environment . But if the parent strongly believes in the nature ideology and thinks that intelligence is already fixed and if he/she does not provide enough opportunity to the child to interact in a social environment, the child becomes handicapped to deal with such situations as he/she ages . Likewise introduction to language skills, academic subjects etc at the appropriate age gives a child appropriate competitive edge over those who haven't been introduced to it. Also, reasearch shows that children who has been reared in bilingual or multilingual environment tend to be more flexible as well as their multilingual skills has translational effect on other areas of development of intelligence and performance .
