The 1920s presents a time when an entire nation was grappling with massive technological and social change. Americans spent the decade seeking to adapt to the rise of mass production, mass culture, and a metropolitan world that had emerged seemingly overnight. Discuss the decade in these terms, describing the many ways in which Americans sought to deal with this change.
1920s in American history is called
the Roaring Twenties. For the first time in American history, more
people were living in cities than in the villages. Super market
chains with their advertisements made same product available
nationwide. The slang introduced through advertisements soon became
the national slang.
Technological advancements in communication and automobile made
people spend their money in the new products. Refrigerator and
radio were the most bought products.
Women advertisements were daring and boasting by projecting the new
age women who wants to break the clutches free. More women started
working, and birth control pills were available which gave more
control to women in regulating their pregnancy.
One of the most important part of the roaring twenties was the ban
on the alcohol by the puritan leaders. The ban was present till the
end of the twenties. While the white middle class believed that
this ban would control the immigrants who flooded the cities, this
also paved way for underground illegal sale of alcohol by
goons.
Many people who were traditional didn't like the change but for the
daring, it was roaring twenties period.
