Humans are multi-dimensional: physical, emotional, psychological, intellectual, spiritual. Each dimension of human existance is developmental, that is we grow into life. Life is a journey.

Today people more and more will call themselves spiritual. If that is so, then how do they grow spiritually? As with other aspects of human growth and development, what is the process? Is there one?

Spirituality is what people at their old age tend to move towards after enjoying all the so called worldly things that the religions have identified. Spirituality has no connection with religion but religion could help people stay spiritual. Normally, spirituality is connected to religion but a spiritual person can be an atheist.

Spirituality is about living a life without any expectations, without any inclination towards materialistic ideals, loving nature and all the other humans as one and the same. Spiritual people accept others with all their positives and negatives. They try to find Godliness in everyone and everything. This doesn’t happen one fine day, instead, it takes years for one to become spiritual as they have to renounce their physiological cravings, attain emotional stability and openness to humanity.

Theology on the other hand proposes that people can enjoy or attain spirituality through God and the ways that particular religion has set. One important factors that limits religion is that their proposal that people could attain spirituality only through their religion and not by any other means. The journey of spirituality is the attainment of oneness with nature, humanity and self. This combination makes one understand every life counts and if there is any deviance in this thought, one doesn’t live a spiritual life.
