One example might be that you need to give a gift that is a appropriate in value. You don't want to give something too expensive or something too cheap. What are some of the other rules surrounding giving a gift in our culture? How we learn what those rules are, and what are some of the consequences of breaking them?

• The usefulness of the item given: We choose gift as those items that could be used by the receiver in any manner. Whether it's an item for showcase, or a chocolate or a book.
• We choose gift according to taste of receivers, if they are individuals close to us, or we choose a common item when given for formal occasions.
• Mostly gift items are attached with emotions,hence, we pay importance to the proper wrapping of the gift items.
• We give gift so that we may receive some.

We learn these unspoken rules of gift giving by observing our elders and imitating them in our childhood. The consequences of not following the guidelines of giving gifts could be strain in relationships, poor image of ours, and waste of our money and effort.
