How did Descartes prove God's existence?

How did Descartes prove God's existence?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Rene Descartes believes that nothing can be created from nothing, so there is a something which is perfect that could have created all. He tries to prove the existence of that perfect thing or GOD as we know it through his two point argument.

Firstly, he says that he is an imperfect being but he is also aware that something perfect exists. This idea of perfectness, he says comes from someone perfect and he is not a human because all humans are imperfect. So there is God who is perfect.

Secondly, he says that because we are born imperfect and knowing that we exist, we should agree that something more perfect than us would have created us. He says our parents were also imperfect beings and they were also created by some perfect thing. This perfect thing is what he calls as GOD.
