Describe Likert’s scaling method.

Answer #1

Likert scaling method is a rating scale of measuring opinions and attitudes on a subject widely used in surveys. The respondents are required to rate their feelings of agreement or disahreement with a particular statement related to the subject. The statementscare designed to tap in all the components of the issue being studied. For each statement the respondent is given 5- 9 pre-coded responses. The 5 point likert scale is generally in the form of

Strongly Agree , agree , undecided , disagree, strongly disagree.

Each option os assigned a numerical value, to analyze the data quantitatively. These scales are quick and easy to administer and do not force the respondent to take extreme Yes/No choices. Disadvantage can be that it can be manipulated for social desirability.

A submarine operating underwater is to be modelled based on Reynold’s Number scaling. Derive the expression for prototype velocity, Vp as a function of model velocity, Vm. If we now wish to model a breakwater in a physical laboratory, we must base this on Froude Number scaling. For this second application, derive the expression for prototype velocity, Vp as a function of model velocity, Vm.
