Our concept of old age is changing. Previously older adults were either taken into their children's homes or placed in a nursing home. Today, older adults are opting to stay in their homes with help, living in adult communities, or living in assisted living facilities. What effects do these changes have on older people? How do you think these changes have affected our concept of aging and growing old?

The effects these changes have on older people include;

Greater independence as when we live in our own space we have more control over our life. This leads to increased confidence levels. However the cons include more loneliness in one’s old age because if we live in our children’s home we will be surrounded by our grandkids and our children. Thus the socialization will be more leading to a more emotionally satisfying life with something to look forward in life such as taking care of grandchildren’s education. These changes have affected our concept of aging and growing old because old age is no longer considered an age in which people should leave all the errand of life and give up on life.
