How has the media forced society to believe that an entire case can be solved and prosecuted in a 60 minute episode of real life? How has the CSI effect impacted the criminal justice system?
Media has too much influence on people in shaping their perceptions and opinions about an issue. It’s the way things are presented that make people belief as if they are real. People forget themselves when they watch television or a movie that has got some elements that are beyond reality which makes people believe that they are real. For example not many people have seen a court or attended a case proceeding thus people would believe whatever is been shown in the television. When something that is new to the people is shown in the television or movies, they tend to think that they are true. This made people believe that the cases will be solved in an hour or within a day. CSI, Crime Scene Investigation is a belief that the television shows has built through their investigative programmes that the criminal justice system needs more evidences before convicting an offender. Most of the time, the crime scene investigation would be imaginary and quick which in real life may not be possible.
