Assume that you are a caregiver in a day care center. You are responsible for taking care of two children: one is an 18-month-old boy and the other is a 2.5 year-old girl.
Describe a typical day spent interacting with the two children. In your scenario use and explain the following terms: affordances, child-directed speech, and synchrony. Give examples of each term as well.
Consider your own gender in terms of how you might interact with the children and how the children might respond to you. You don't need to limit yourself to just these three terms.
So today I spent my day with two cute yet notorious buddies; one was 18months old boy named james and a 2.5 years old jill. Both of the kids were curious and their curiosity can be seen in their glittery eyes as they were learning affordances of the physical world around them as they are perceptually learning.Affordances sounds quite difficult term but is not. It simply means what the environment offers the animal, what it provides or furnishes, either for good or bad.The kids were merely learning about the things in their surroundings i.e. basically Affordances. Crawling of James and Jill's habit of picking and examining evey other thing are some examples of them learning the affordances.Although this word have evolved but the original definition in psychology includes all transactions that are possible between an individual and their environment. James had not learnt toilet training well as his anal stage(Psychosexual satge by Freud) had just started while Jill being elder had properly learnt toilet trainig.
James being younger wasn't clear in speech to make both the kids comfortable with myself I also talked in child directed speech i.e. simply high-pitched and elongated words in an exaggerated manner with lots of facial expressiveness. This was all it will te took to get these little ones to learn the joys of conversation and helped them discover the pleasures of talking, interacting with, and having fun with people.Andi hope that they enjoyed that expressive conversation with me as much as i did.
Care taking isn't an easy task to do as the parents trust you and somehow caretaker become responible in many ways. Like i had read that In childhood, we learn to love from our interactions with our parents. It is through our parents and primary caregivers that we first develop selective attachments(we understand the uniqueness of certain relationships). And this act aswe understand the uniqueness of certain relationships.Synchrony is the ability to coordinate actions and collaborate towards a common goal. The word synchrony means a simulataneous action which these kids were showing like when I played pee-k-boo with them they also tried to immitiate with me in a synchronised manner or reciprocating smiles when i smiled.
Taking care of these kids made them learn more about the world they are gonna deal in later life and made me learn about themselves.
