In teaching a 4 year old the theory of conservation Piaget would have used visual aids to instruct the child and would have given hands on activities for the same ,so as to let the child invent himself/ herself and gain complete understanding by doing so.
Vygotsky would have demonstrated the concept first and then encouraged the child to attempt the conservation by activities, while stepping back himself and being there for the child to offer support as needed.
