Do you agree or disagree with the so-called “Marshall Hypothesis”that is, that the average citizen who knew “all the facts presently available regarding capital punishment would find it shocking to his conscience and sense of justice”? (300 words)
I disagree. The reason for this is that when an average person hears the reasons why people face capital punishment, regardless of the manner in which it is carried out, they would not find it shocking to the sonscience. These reasons may include rape, child molestation and later murder, torture, and sexually related killings. When an individual is so lacking of human ability to empathize with others, the punishment should be equal to that which he himself was able to do onto another. Capital punishment doesn't even come close to most of the reasons why individuals are given this sentence and therefore, an average person, would not find this shocking at all.
