You study gender? Seems pretty basic to me. You’re either a boy or a girl. (gender vs. sex)
Gender binary is one general type of a gender system and refers to the classification of sex and gender into two distinct, opposite and disconnected forms of masculine and feminine. The binary model appears to assume that "sex", "gender" and "sexuality" are aligned in an expected fashion. For instance, if a female is born, she is expected to display typical feminine characteristics and be attracted to men. However, from our observation of the world around us, we know that this type of gender system is flawed because we find ample of individual differences in how gender, sex and sexuality can be expressed. The members of the LGBTQ+ community, for instance, clearly indicate that the gender binary simply does not hold true.
