A brief review of the U.S.' historical efforts to secure its borders
U.S efforts to secure it's borders dates to 1904 when "mounted watchman" patrolled it's borders, but, these services were irregular and were carried when there were resources for it. It was in 1924, when nativism was at it peak, U.S Border patrol was established to have regular patrolling, and to keep the illegal immigrants in check. During 1940s, a network of border checkpoints, and a more vigilant patrolling was implemented to police the borders especially the Mexican borders to check the flow of illegal laborers. The concept of "border security" came into existence in context to war on drugs. Thus, in the present scenario border security means to check the flow of illegal immigrants, laborers, drugs into the country.
