in linear expansion, the data collected in the cooling down process because in heating process the thermal expansion and temprature change rapidly so it cant be collected in the cooling down process because in heating process the thermal expansion and temprature change rapidly so it cant be collected?
True or False

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Solution:

False. But, usually, we will collect the data while cooling.

Because there will be an experimental difficulty to maintain a uniform rate of heating throughout the experiment. Apart from this another important feature related to structural phase transition. If we are increasing the temperature of an object, it may undergo structural phase transformation which inturn gives erroneous data.

Therefore, first, we will check the stability of the structure by increasing its temperature to the desired temperature. Once after confirming that there is no structural change, we will slowly cool the system and collect data and will use that data for calculating the linear expansion properties of that specific object.

Maintaining the uniform cooling rate is comparatively easier than maintaining the uniform rate while heating.

Workers at a certain soda drink factory collected data on the volumes (in ounces) of a simple random sample of 24 cans of the soda drink. Those volumes have a mean of 12.19 oz and a standard deviation of 0.12 oz, and they appear to be from a normally distributed population. If the workers want the filling process to work so that almost all cans have volumes between 11.92 oz and 12.52 oz, the range rule of thumb can be...

9.11 Table C.13 Anorexia data Ben-Tovim et al. (1979) report a case-control study to test hypothesis that anorexic people tend to overestimate their true waist measurements.Eight anorexic women were identified from a hospital in-patient unit and compared with 11 non-anorexic adolescent schoolgirls. The outcome variable used to compare cases and controls was the body perception index, BPI = 100 * (perceived waistwidth)/ (true waist width) The data collected were as follows: Subject number Waist width (cm) Cases True Perceived BPI...
