Estimate the length of your vacuum's power cord in meters. Within this cord is a pair of adjacent wires that carry AC current to and from the machine while you vacuum. These two wires, separated by a millimeter of insulation, carry the same magnitude of current at all times, but in opposite directions. Determine the maximum magnetic force (magnitude and direction) exerted on these wires while the vacuum is operating.
You'll need to look at the specifications tag on your vacuum (probably somewhere on the bottom); next to the intended voltage source (120V at 60Hz) you'll find the rms current draw of the device.
