Is there any way to manufacture formaldehyde without the use of methanol as a raw material?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

.Incomplete combustion of organic materials can produce formaldehyde and it can also found in cigarette smoke. there are ways of producing formaldehyde from alternative raw materials such as methane , propane and butane but the mixture of products need to be seprated that makes overall process non feasible using hydrocarbons. we basically made formaldehyde from methanol by using different catalyst.

in short there is no other route except methanol for the production of formaldehyde industrially.
