a) Discuss the size and shape effects on the packing density and flow ability in fluid.

b) What are the key limits of the particle density measurement? Is there a way to identify the particle porosity and voidage properly? If you are asked to design a relatively reliable method to measure the particle density of a given type of particles, what are the possible particle characterisation techniques you wish to use?

Answer #1

a) Numerous factors affect the magnitude and direction of permeability.. Textural properties like grain size , shape of grains, packing etc. Experimental factors shows that permeability (k) is expected as where c is the characteristic of rock property and d is the grain diameter. As the grain size increases , the pore throat sisize increases and k also increases.

b)The density of porous particles measurements is the average density and measurement of similar size particles and grouping is same.

c) There are direct methods , optical methods and Computational tomography methods like thermoporosimetry and cryoporometry. The techniques like lasers are precise.
