Do you need continuous water for a boiler/heat exchanger in a distillation column? Is there any waste water from this?

Answer #1

Solution:

Yes it needs 24/7 without ever stopping to refill the boiler tank. Liquid called the “feed” which is a mixture of two or more liquids to be separated is pumped constantly into a distillation column with a continous supply of water in reboiler for forming vapors continously throughout the tower for more separation efficiency. And their is no waste of water as it can be used again and again for forming vapors.

You are responsible for designing a new heat exchanger to reheat a 100 kmol/hr water stream producing superheated steam. You can assume the heat exchanger operates at steady state, and there are negligible pressure losses throughout the system (it’s new, so there’s no fouling). The water enters the heat exchanger at 300 K and 5 bar and is heated to 575 K. Estimate the heat exchanger duty in kW.

In order to heat up a distillation column for separating a mixture of reaction products, a superheated steam, P3 having a flowrate of 1500kg/hr, at 1 bar and superheated condition is used. This steam is provided by a heat exchanger, after blending two steam streams, F1(kg/hr), saturated steam at 0.5 bar discharged from a turbine and F2(kg/hr), superheated steam at 5 bar and 600oC discharged from an exothermic reactor. The mixing unit operates adiabatically. i. Draw the flow diagram for...
