Question

Why the conductivity of a tap water is less than the 0.1 N HCL Solution?

Why the conductivity of a tap water is less than the 0.1 N HCL Solution?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Electrical conductivity in the fluids is because of movement of charge carries and there density in the fluid.

Higher the concentration of free and ionized charge carrier better will be the conductivity.

=>In the HCl solution hydrogen ion [H+] and chloride [Cl-] ions are dissociates make the density of current carrier high in the solution.

HCl-------------> H+ + Cl- Kdissociation = [H+] [ Cl-] / [HCl]

While in the tap water the charge carrier density is low make it less conductive.

Kdissociation of tap water is low as compare to the  Kdissociation  of HCl.

That's why due to density of these charge carrier high in HCl the conductivity is higher than tap water

Aspirin Determination using Back Titration Began with 0.1 M HCl solution and 0.1 M NaOH solution. 1:2 aspirin to NaOH mole ratio, therefore, mol HCl (back titration) = excess mol NaOH AND total mol NaOH used - excess mol NaOH=required mol NaOH AND required mol NaOH (1 mol aspirin / 2 mol NaOH) = mol aspirin. Each step builds off the last 1) Determination of HCl Concentration. This was the first titration. Concentrated HCl was diluted to .1M before titrating....

Explain why the conductivity of 0.073 M Ba(NO3)2(aq) is greater than that of 0.073 M KBr(aq). A) The total ion concentration of the Ba(NO3)2 is greater than the KBr. In addition, some or all of the ions in Ba(NO3)2 have higher charge than those of KBr. Both of these factors increase the conductivity of the Ba(NO3)2 solution. B) Electrolytes with a NO3– anion will always have a higher conductivity when compared to any other electrolyte. Thus the Ba(NO3)2 will always...
