Given that some research point out nearly as many disadvantages of multicultural teams as advantages, why even bother with multicultural teams? Are there situations under which they should not be used? Elaborate. (This question is from Cross-Cultural management, Essential Concept 4th edition. Davis Thomas and Mark Peterson).
Multicultural teams have a very diverse background. They bring a new different skill sets and talent which boosts the creativity of the team. This creativity and multidimensional approach can produce superior results. Everyone working towards a common goal increases creativity, productivity and loyalty in the company.
While working in very large teams it is not advisable to go for multicultural teams since there are high chances of people forming smaller groups. People who share same cultural values and beliefs will get aligned and may lead to infighting with other smaller factions. These groups can very difficult to notice since a engineer may have more orientation with a accountant of another country than with his own country men.
