Market segments are created based on customer’s needs and desires, mostly by customer satisfaction. State-of-being segmentation separates the markets into different segment into segments considering demographics factors such as age, income level, gender, family status, education, location, race and ethnicity, etc. Hence, the basic components are customer’s demographics and psychographics along with product benefits and usage. Each of these components rests on an assumption that homogeneity in one component relates with the other. Generally, marketers use cross-sections of segments. For local college women’s basketball team it should be product benefits and proximity.
