PART B
Omega is introducing a new information system and given that it is
a large project the Project Manager has decided to set some key
performance indicators for the team.
The Project Manager is of the opinion that the benefits from the
project will exceed the costs of it and that the project will be
completed on time with all the deliverables (outputs) of a suitable
quality.
Three KPI’s have been selected for analysis:
KPI Context
Volume of transactions
Capable of processing up to 6000 transactions per hour This is an
increase of 80% compared to the previous system
Labour
Total labour spend on the project must not exceed
R15 million This is based on the original specification and scope
of the project Deliverables
All originally specified deliverables (outputs) must be 100%
delivered This is based on the original specification and scope of
project
Required:
For each KPI listed above discuss the positives and negatives that
you can identify in the measure suggested and include in your
discussion whether and how this measure could be manipulated.
Ans
KPI 1 : Voume of transactions
Benefit: The increase in transaction size compared to previous system is 80%. This will prepare the MIS for steep rise in transactions.
Disadvantage: The cost of storing such a large data base will also rise proportionately. Increased manpower might be required to finish the project on time.
KPI 2. Labour
Benefit: The labour spent is limited to R15 mn and this will contain costs
Disadvantage: The quality of the project might suffer due to labour budget constraint as better quality labor may require higher budgets. The project timeline is not mentioned and therefore the project might get delayed due to labor budget constrain or due to other projects running concurrently
KPI 3. Deliverables
Benefit: All deliverables are to be completed 100% as per originally decided. This will complete the project as per deliverables.
Disadvantage: The project timeline is not mentioned and therefore the project might get delayed due to labor budget constrain or due to other projects running concurrently. It is therefore crucial that project key people are identified and are accountable to finish the project as per timeline.
