Do efforts towards a more diverse work culture stifle employees from speaking out? What can leaders do to avert this potential outcome?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

If the company forces a diverse work culture on the employees then they will start speaking out. This is very natural for the employees who have not faced any changes at the company. Their nature will object the sudden changes and make them question it. Some of the ways that leader can do to avert this potential outcome are:

  • Keep all the employees informed of all the possible changes in the workforce
  • Mentally prepare them for the change by introducing them to the diverse work culture
  • Explain to them why it is important to have a diverse work culture and what are the advantages.
  • Explain why the company is trying to bring this change and how it can affect the business positively
  • Create policies that encourage the teams to have members from diverse background
  • Create team bonding activities that increase the communication between the people from diverse backgrounds

Case Study Google and P&G Swap Employees The cultures of the two companies could not be more different. Procter & Gamble (P&G) is notoriously controlled, disciplined, scalable and rigid—so much so that employees call themselves ‘Proctoids’. Google is just as famous for its laid-back, unstandardised, free-flowing culture. So what would cause these two large, successful examples of a strong—yet dissimilar—corporate culture to decide to socialise each another’s employees? One reason clearly is marketing: P&G sees more of its future marketing...

Knowling goes on to say about fear that once people know change is coming, 'you can cut it with a knife'. He implies this is normal as well, which I too agree. He then says that his way of 'dealing with it' is to tell people that they need to deal with the fear and not let it immobilize them into doing nothing. Again I agree with this statement, but I am not fully supportive of the notion that you...

Of course, the method may actually slow down students’ ability to learn. You test this new method by comparing the performances of identical twins using each of these methods. Using a = 0.01,can you conclude that there...
