An Innovation Failure at JCPenney: Its Causes and Consequences
Do the innovations implemented by JCPenny sound interesting to you? Would you shop at a store with these features? Why or why not? Use examples and illustrations from your personal experience.
The innovations implemented by JCP sounded interesting. Establishing branded boutiques within JCP stores along with places to sit and grab a cup of coffee could be considered unique. Mr. J’s vision was to give the company a youthful image was also appealing by incorporating customer centric needs in and around the boutique store. Therefore, if the boutique store exhibits the unique features, any customer would like to visit the store and shop. The innovations do not sound that interesting to me because Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, and Neiman Marcus have a similar set up. If I was shopping and wanted a cup of coffee or snack I could just go to a nearby Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts, therefore I do not think the concept is very innovative.
