WMSDs - Work-related Musculoskeletal
Disorders
Let us first see some of the probable risk factors associated to
the WMSD's -
- Postures and movements
- Force of movements
- Vibrations
- Repetitiveness and pace of work
a) Consequences -
- Humans being the most crucial resources must be treated fairly
well as the entire business runs on them, failing to properly
manage it could be fatal. The first and most crucial consequence
can be reduced or decreased rate of productivity. The logic is
simple and obvious which relates to poor work orders
- Secondly, there can be more chances of errors since the
employees are using their body limits and thus a stressed mind and
body could lead to work errors.
- Health issues of employees cannot be ignored and the company
may have to spend a lot on their treatment
- There can be an increase in the number of employees
turnover.
b) Actions recommended for the employers -
- Make sure that your employees are trained properly
- A periodic assessment can be inforced to check their
understanding (understanding should be through).
- Frequent stretching sessions, to make them feel relaxed. As we
know that a relaxed body and mind could pull more productivity at
work.
- There should be shift rotation policies
- Do not make the work overtime, if not then provide more
awareness
- Rest breaks between work is crucial to avoid such risks
- The employer must educate the employees on their food intake
and quantity. They must educate them to remain fit.
- Training session or yoga classes could bring quick good
results
- Acknowledge them with any sort of remuneration in addition to
salary (obvious)
- Incorporate a sense of teamwork rather than individual
contributor. These ease the work atmosphere.
