Do Marketers create needs?

As per Kotler- Marketers don't create it but it pre exists marketers. Marketers can only influence wants of the consumer. But this statement is controversial in itself. Another segment of the society thinks marketers create needs by educating and influencing people about a product on the basis of societal factors. This led the consumer to buy unnecessary things. One more arguement is that need is felt deprivation so it can not be created and marketer only identify the needs and make consumer realize about it by creating value for those needs. Factors which supports the statement that need can not be created by marketer, it pre existed marketing because-

Needs are felt deprivation, it can not be created

Marketers can only highlight the needs and create value for it.

Wants can be created not needs, and there is difference between needs and wants.

Societal influence like having a car is need but buying a luxury car is influenced with soecital factors which influence the consumer to buy the luxury and expensive car.

Competition in market led the marketers to influence buyers with their advertising which plays psychic games to the consumer's mind which apparantely transforms consumer's wants to needs.
