Answer #1

c)To address the limitations of past studies and to fill the current gap in knowledge, this study aimed to evaluate the cognitive function of community-dwelling adults with hyper-tension or DM.

A purpose statement tell us about the purpose of the research followed by scope and direction. In the above mentioned statement there is clear purpose of adressing the limitations of past studies and to fill the current gap in knowledge with a scope and direction of aiming to evaluate the cognitive function of community-dwelling adults with hyper-tension or DM.

The first statement is good for the background of the research article but does not satisfy the criteria of being a purpose statement. However the second and forth statement describe something that apparently does not follow the context of the article.
