This week's discussion board topic will be the legal driving limit of BAC (Blood Alcohol Concentration) being dropped from .08 to .05. Utah is the first state to have passed it earlier this year. Some states are also looking to pass it at the .05 level. Which means roughly two standard drinks (12 oz beer) for the average male per hour (140-200 lbs) would put them at the legal limit when driving. Also, for the average female (below 180 lbs) she would be legally drunk at two or more drinks per hour. Of course other factors, such as drinking with an empty or full stomach need to be considered, but this gives you an estimation. The lowered BAC is estimated to save thousands of lives per year. Some contend it may go too far. What is your opinion, should it be dropped from .08 to .05 OR kept as is?
1. Don'tmix drink with drive as the saying goes. For the safety of the public it would be better to implement policies which prevent people from driving after drinking alcohol.Majority of the RTA occur as a result of rash driving after consuming liquor.BAC level of .05 means the individual has consumed 0.5g of alcohol. When an individual drinks alcohol his mental and physical functioning gets deteriorated .But the impact of alcohol on each patient differs ..Hence BAC is good in determining the intoxication level subject experience after consuming alcohol. At .08 the patient will experience significant mental impairement .But at .05 patient often experience only a mild euphoria .So it would be better to drop BAC levels from .08 to .05.
