In case of superficial partial thickness burns, first check
airway, breathing, circulation. Later do wound assessment.
- clean the burnt area with normal saline or cool water for 10
minutes
- Do not open the blister as it may increase the chance of
infection.
- Cover the burnt area with a sterile non adhesive bandage or a
clean cloth or a sheet depending on what is available and how big
the wound
- Elevate burnt area above the level of heart to reduce
inflammation.
- Insert a two wide bore intravenous cannulas for fluid
therapy
- Assess the degree of burn and do fluid resuscitation based on
modified parkland formula
- Apply a antibiotic cream over burnt area (usually silver
nitrate cream)
- Put the patient on pain relief medication (usually combination
of paracetamol and opioid)
- Monitor patient vitals and urine output (1ml/kg/hr)
