In a survey of 558 students in a Midwestern middle school, 80% of students engaged in bullying behaviours.These study concluded that the bullying behaviours are very common.

The other study of middle school students from a midwestern school that examined the accuracy of teacher ratings, peer ratings and self ratings of bullies and victims of bullies.the research concluded that 75% of students identified themselves as bullies, victims or both bullies and victims.

The other students shows why bullying may increase in middle school.they found that bullying increased with the initial transition from 5th to 6th grade.it is also used as a strategy to establish dominance in new peer groups as the students entered a new school
