if your patient is in leg traction, what can you do to try to prevent peressure injuries that often occure when a patient is in supine position?
Pressure Ulcers: The other names of pressure ulcers are bedsores, pressure sores or decubitus ulcers. As the name indicates, the pressure ulcers are caused due to the prolonged pressure on the skin.
Pressure ulcers generally result due to spending more time in one position, which causes compression of blood capillaries against and decreased blood (and oxygen) supply to that region and leads to ulcer formation.
Preventive measures: The person must maintain clean and dry skin by staying away from the sources of moisture such as wound drainage, urine, feces, and perspiration to avoid the risk of developing pressure ulcers. Pillows and blankets can be used to prevent skin to skin contact. Rolling the patient for every two hours can prevent the pressure ulcers as their body isn’t constantly applying pressure to the bed, but unfortunate, ly it’s an on-going problem.
