Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (PCP) is lung infection that can affect people with weakened immune system such as those infected with HIV. In addition to lungs, the parasite can infect eyes, ears, skin,liver and other organs. This parasite remains in the body for a life,it can cause disease at any time if immune system becomes severly damaged, as in HIV infection. People with HIV infection are susceptible to PCP when their CD4+ T-Cells levels fall below 200. CD4+ T-Cells are important immune system cells targated by HIV.
