You are coaching a soccer team that plays on AstroTurf. Last week, 4 of your players developed painful, draining boils. They have continued to practice with a bandage and triple-antibiotic ointment over them, however, the boils seem to be getting worse rather than better even after 7 days of treating them. Then today, two more players come to you and show you they also have the same looking, painful, draining boils.
Questions
1) What are some of the possible conditions that may be affecting these athletes? (List more than one!) What might explain the worsening of these boils rather than improvement?
2) What are the next reasonable steps in the management of these 6 athletes? Please include their participation status and any referrals, treatments, precautions, and instructions to the parents.
3) What are some steps that you would take to prevent any other
athletes from contracting this infection?
1) These painful boils are the results of bacterial infection mainly affected the atheletes . Athletes got infected in the field during practice by this bacterial infection that spead by skin to skin contact or by sharing the equipments and towels and other things of each other . Staphyloccous aureus is the bacterial infection which is happen to a person if skin could get wound or minor cuts etc .
MRSA Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus anureus , is a kind of bacterial infection that is resistant to the normal antibiotics , thats why the boils get worst rather than the improvement even after applying the antibiotics ointment over them or even get turned out to be the larger skin abscesses . The players who got infected earlier also played even after getting infection with bandages etc and spread the infection among others.
2) The next reasonalable step to manage the condition is to restrict those players who have these boils and have infection . Because you should take care of that , it is contagious disease and spread by contacting each other , so stop their practice for sometime and get themproper medications and concern to the doctor as soon as possible , beacuse doctor could look into that and provide the medication according to the severity that varies person to person . This infection is very dangerous , if it is left untreated , it can invade the blood vesels and afect the internal system directly .
Preventions for these boils are simply maintain your hygiene and keep yourself clean and sweat free . Use bandage for minor cuts and wounds and avoid the clothing that cause chafting .
These boils is not the major issue , they can cure itself by drainage ,and you should apply some warm compression sometime to make them drained . If the boils are still increase in their size and pus is also developed , then should immediately concern to the doctor and doctor should provide proper medication .
3) The steps that should be taken to prevent any other athletes from contracting this infection is firstly , seprate the infected players from others and make them rest at there place . Sanitized each and every equipment and completely destroy that bacterial strain if somewhere is available . Provide the intrsuctions to the players that should be strictly follow by them to avoid any infection or any such event further . Use liquid soap rather than the bar soap , avoid the equipment sharing and make the alcohol based hand sanitizer if in case and soap is not available . Always wear the protective gear or equipments ro reduce the cuts and injuries during practise so that it will reduced the further infection chances . Make them very clear to take bath after every practise so that if there is and bacteria or germs , can get rid of it by bathing .
