the patients hematocrit increases from 42 to 65. What would the B/P do as a result of this and why?
Hematocrit is the ratio of volume of red blood cells to the all other components of whole blood, expressed in percentage or fraction. Tue normal value varies for men and women. For me it ranges from 40 to 54 % and for women it is 36 to 48 %.
A high hematocrit level is termed as polycythemia. There will be increase in the blood viscosity due to increased concentration of blood cells in the blood which reduce the flow of blood in the vessels. The systemic blood pressure will increase to maintain the normal blood flow.
So, due to increased blood viscosity, there will be an increase in systemic blood pressure.
